Supporting Charities

Posted on

At the PlayBag Company, we like to give a little back to our communities, so here’s the lowdown on some of what we do on a personal and professional level.

On a professional level, when I started up this little company, I made a conscious decision to give a portion of income to charity. On a personal note I strongly believe in giving back to the community and as such will often be found baking for some local charity or fundraiser.

Cancer Research Race for Life

I have been taking part in Cancer Research’s Race for Life for over ten years now, and my daughter Caitlin has joined me for the last 5 of those. Are we well matched? No not really! She is a sprinter, I am slow and steady so we tend to keep passing each other. However, when that finish line is in sight, we both get a bit competitive and race to the end. As she has youth and long legs on her side, she usually does beat me!

This year will be slightly different as we have opted to do the Pretty Muddy version! I am looking forward to getting muddy tomorrow and am hoping that we will stick together this year as I think I may need her help!!

Age UK/Innocent Smoothies – The Big Knit

Although I am not massively into knitting, these I can handle! Each August, I dig out the knitting needles and some odd bits of wool and throw together some little bobble hats which will then adorn innocent smoothie bottles in the winter. Each bottle sold, Innocent then donates 25p to Age UK. I think it is a lovely simple way to get involved and do something for the older generation of our country. Northampton Trustee Fund – Child Sponsor

Back in my teaching days, I met Andy Butler – co-founder of Northampton Trustee Fund. NTF have developed strong links with a village in The Gambia and as well as helping development, one of their main functions is to gain sponsorship for the education of the children there. Our sponsored child has recently moved up to High School and it has been a really touching experience to receive letters from her and her family over the years. This coming December, Caitlin and I will be visiting the village, where we will be able to see the work the charity has done, and meet the family. We will keep you update on this via newsletter and social media on developments. Very exciting!

Cancer Research, Dryathalon

Who needs an excuse to go dry for January?! Raise money for a good cause and give your liver and bank balance after the festive season. What more needs to be said? To get involved, click on the link below.

Local Charities.

A little bit closer to home, we also support lots of smaller charities mostly by offering our time and cupcakes! As a family, we all love creating havoc in the kitchen and sampling the goods. The children are often dismayed to realise that most of the baking is not for them however!

Percentage of Proceeds to Charity

£1 from the sale of each bag is also donated to our chosen charity for the year. This year we have decided to use this donation to go towards Penyem Village via Northampton Trustee Fund.

Now off to dust off my running shoes....
