  1. Quite frankly, the PlayBag is for me!

I am a busy mum of two very different and active children. But sometimes, I end up being in places that perhaps aren’t very entertaining or child friendly, and nothing can frazzle a mum more than a bored child! Sometimes my daughter has to go training, which means Peter and I have two hours to play with. Not a problem if it is a nice day and there is a park nearby, but sometimes it is not all that easy. Plus going out and about always means spending more money!

You know, sometimes I just want to go out for a coffee or to the hairdressers! Sometimes, dare I say it, I also don’t want to be disturbed by other people’s children! So I also don’t want my child disturbing other people’s peace!

  2. When I created the PlayBag, I wanted it to be as versatile as possible, whereby the only limit was the child’s imagination.

However, some toys obviously work better than others due to the road and feature size. I have created the following list to give you an idea of the sort of toys that we have found work best with the PlayBags. Although this list is in no way exhaustive, it gives you a good idea where to start!

    1)      Lego. This has to be my favourite all time toy! It has stood the test of time and seems to be universal. Loved by children of all ages. Despite recent criticism that the “kits” inhibit the child’s creativity, I find the opposite. Ok, so you build the kit up. But if you are anything like my family, this soon gets destroyed and mingled in with the other bits and turned into something completely different. And that is the beauty of Lego. It can be whatever you want it to be. This fits in perfectly with The PlayBag ethos of imaginative play. Lego vehicles tend to be a perfect size to fit onto the roads; you can build Lego buildings to populate the area – the possibilities are endless!

  3. Hi, and welcome to the first PlayBlog! I thought it appropriate to introduce ourselves with the story of how the PlayBag came into existence!

There are many reasons for the creation of the first PlayBag. The reason I usually use is that three years after my son, Peter was born, I decided it was about time to visit the hairdressers! I did not have anyone who could look after him for the hour or so needed, so had no choice but to take him with me. The night before, as I was putting him to bed, I was busy thinking over what I could take to keep him occupied, knowing that he would not just happily sit and colour in being the energetic young boy that he is! By the time I got downstairs, I had formulated a plan in my head of a bag which converted into a play mat. It would carry all his toys, be something to play with, and be compact and easy to tidy up afterwards. It had a road, stream with an island and, a helipad. That evening, I gathered scraps of fabric, and some old curtains, and threw together the first PlayBag. It was such a hit with him, and other children who passed through, although I never thought about making them commercially at this point.
